today i briefly chatted online with a friend... who directed me to a new rap video on youtube. he explained that he'd been playing it at least once day. i asked what it was about. "anger," he responded, referring to black men's rage. so i looked it up and listened to it... anger with the police and government. anger about racism... but to be honest, (at least today) i'm tired of angry black masculinity. because it never fails to silence and ignore the struggles of black women. black women are getting beat and raped everyday. the state affects us, too. the media tells us that we're not shit either. so why should i embrace a hip hop that is as much a space for me as the rest of society...
